It all began in Assam
Kamal was raised in Assam by his mother and father in the Muslim faith. In order to strike out on his own he choiced the Indian army at the age of 16, eventually leaving to move to the Middle East.
After a couple of years in the Middle East he moved to Canada where is cooking skills were honed at a hotel in Toronto. After a few years in Canada he came to the USA and settled in the San Francisco Bay Area. His good friend introduced him to his wife, Nimmi Bano, a native of Calcutta, and the culinary adventure began.
Their first restaurant was Little Delhi on Jones Street in San Francisco. This was a small restaurant where people lined up from 3pm to 10pm every day to get a taste of Curry and other Indian dishes. After outgrowing Little Delhi on Jones they move to Little Delhi on Eddy Street - doubling the size of the restuarant and taking in a partner. Kamal sold the business to his partner and took a couple of years off before opening Curry Village on 9th Avenue. At this location he had a buffet for lunch and dinner. There was always a crowd and the restaurant did well. Eventually, this restaurant was sold and he now he has come to San Rafael.
Halal Indian Cuisine continues the tradition of Little Delhi with freshly cooked and made to order dishes for both eating in or take-out. Come visit with Chef Kamal and tell him how you like his food and he'll make it especially for you. Make sure to try the Chai & Naan Bread - the best around. The dishes are always made fresh and with Halal meats.
